We just happened upon barbely's as we were passing through town and decided to stop for dinner. We are definitely glad we made that stop. They got us in despite not having a reservation, the food was delicious, the ribs were falling off the bone, the fried chicken and Mac n cheese were delicious. My daughter absolutely crushed her fried shrimp. It truly did remind me of dinners at my Nanas house. They had a play area for the kids, i absolutely adore that. Also bonus points for having my favorite, corn pudding! Everyone there was very sweet and nice. When we are in the area we will definitely be back by.

A perfect spot for a Virginia Shore family meal. We stumbled upon it (thank you Google maps) and took the side road to get to this "locals only" , with local dishes: the crab cake was TO DIE FOR- a nice add-on to any entrée. Friendly service. Across from a historic railroad museum that will delight those who love "choo-choos" (my grandbaby, Flossie ;-)
3 stars on atmosphere because we had to walk our family through a dense cloud of cigarette smoke to enter as the front porch is the smoking section. It WAS rainy, so maybe there were more smokers than usual. Fact is, we were visiting Virgina, a Commonwealth that has a long history of benefit from the tobacco industry. So when in Rome. . .
Bathrooms were clean, country decor in a historic building with a clean partially open kitchen.

Coming to this restaurant has been a tradition for my family for as long as I can remember and even before that. The best food with the very best people!! It is not possible to find a restaurant that makes you feel more at home and welcomed. Cannot recommend enough!

This is a Mom & Pop operation!
(Actually the entire family)
The atmosphere is that of way back in the day when folks actually enjoyed taking care of you and your family.
The food was beyond exceptional.
The food is if you went to your family potluck and everyone brought your favorite dish.
Portions are actually huge (too much in a good way) you'll be taking some home with you for sure! There are so many choices it's difficult to choose because everything is so good.
I fell in love with this place. It definitely has that down home feeling.
You must experience it for yourself.

I’ve lived on the Eastern Shore my whole life and finally decided to give Barbely’s a try — and I’m so glad I did! The food is absolutely phenomenal. You can immediately tell it’s home-cooked, and the entire place has that warm, family atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
The desserts were outstanding — the apple dumpling especially was amazing. I also want to recognize our server, Jenna, who provided excellent customer service, keeping everything moving smoothly while making everyone feel welcome. Drinks and food came out without delay, and it was truly a seamless operation.
The front staff, including the hostess (who I believe may also be the owner), was an absolute hoot — she instantly makes you feel like part of the family.
If you’re looking for comfort food with genuine hospitality, you need to check out Barbely’s. Highly recommend!

Barbely’s is a fantastic family restaurant that you don’t come across very often. Their place is rich in history and loaded with tasty homestyle options. I ordered the beef and dumplings. Extremely fresh and made with love. I also ordered the coconut pie and the pork chop from my husband Togo. All top quality and absolutely delicious. Service was excellent. They even have an area for children to sit and play so parents can enjoy. Thanks for you a great experience. We will be back!

Barbely's is easily my favorite place to eat in all of Maryland. This is truly a hidden gem that I go to as often as I am able. The food is as homey as it is delicious and the feelings is like a slice of home. I'm happy that my family's childhood general store had become a increadable place for all to come and enjoy. Thank you barbely's :)

TITLE ….LIES!!!
I do not know what in the Tom foolery of reviews is going on here. I’ll be as comprehensive as possible;
We were sent here under the guise of the “best fried chicken” on the planet.
The reviews will send you into a world of chaos once you arrive and question how so many have left such glowing reviews.
This establishment proves nepotism is alive and well. This establishment prides itself on their history and it’s just that. In history it may have been good.
1-Question anyone who refers you here, ask questions, get demographics on them.
2-Not a glove, hair net or sanitary area to be found.
3-The baked goods are just sitting uncovered, a sneeze away from contamination.
4-There are NO chefs here, if they fancy themselves as such, take their certificate that may state so.
5-Don’t be fooled by the “cute, campy, kitschy” vibe.
6-Water is the main ingredient in EVERYTHING. When you think it’s impossible to destroy an easy dish, eat here. The Macaroni and Cheese, I hesitate to call it that, was not milky, WATERY. As was the baked Sweet potato, that wasn’t butter that dripped out the dish. How coleslaw could lack flavor poses too many questions.
7-I am still processing this situation and believe that they are busy because it’s small not because it is good.
8-There a bunch of “bro dudes” in t-shirts, sweats, boots and caps, with mullets perfectly in-tact waiting in the tables, is this supposed to be “appeal”?
9-I just paid them $75 to destroy my night and I can not reconcile that emotion.
10-This restaurant proves that you can not trust mankind. Of all of the wonderful establishments to dine, if you make this choice over and over and tell others, you live a questionable existence.
11-Somebody call the State of MD, I think a health and safety check is not a bad idea.
12-Loud live music at a restaurant that DOES NOT, take note, DOES NOT serve alcohol.
13-This may appear like a good down home Old Country Buffet type of dining, that it is not.
14-The Lower Shore is better than this.
15-Be advised that this is not a diverse dining option.
They earned/deserve every letter in every word of this review.

I am baffled by the top star ratings. It leaves me with more questions than answers. Which is terribly disturbing on many many levels that I can not articulate. Who are these people that left 5 stars?

OMG what a great little Mom and Pop place. The food is delicious. Was just there Friday and had two softshell crabs piled with crab imperial, sweet potatoes and fresh green beans. To full for the homemade, delicious dessert.
